Dear residents of Barton and neighbouring villages.

Mopeds / Motorbikes

You may have seen on social media that we've recently seized three mopeds / motorbikes being ridden illegally and recklessly around Barton.  Riding illegal motorbikes not only disrupts our community by causing anti-social behaviour, but riding any motorbike or moped without a valid driving license is illegal, and riding uninsured off-road motorbikes or high-speed electric motorbikes are strictly prohibited from public roads, pavements, and parks.

e-Scooters …Don't get caught out!

We're aware that e-scooters are being ridden around Barton.

e-Scooters can be bought and privately owned, but using an e-scooter on a public road, pavement, or cycle lane is illegal!!

You can only use e-scooters on private land which the public does not have access to, with the landowners permission.

The Barton Neighbourhood Policing Team have a number of powers at our disposal to deal with e-scooters, ranging from a warning through to seizure and prosecution if you don't have a valid driving license or insurance.  This includes if it's being ridden in a careless, dangerous or anti-social manner.

If we seize your e-scooter you won't get it back and you could end up with a fine and points on your license!

Powers under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 allows Police to instantly seize vehicles that have been causing alarm or distress, and we can now fast-track the crushing and disposal of anti-social vehicles within 48 hours without giving a prior warning.

Does your neighbour ride a moped, motorbike or e-scooter illegally?  If so we would like to hear from YOU by replying to his message with as much information as possible.  This helps us identify where they are being housed and where we can focus our attention in order to stop them being ridden illegally.
